Description
Inspired by the dark days of the Civil War, Joseph Gilmore wrote a poem expressing a trust in following God no matter the circumstances. His wife, unknown to him, sent the poem to a weekly Christian magazine where it was seen by William Bradbury. Mr. Bradbury set the words to a tune he composed and subsequently it was published in hymnals.
