Description
Fanny J. Crosby penned well over 8,000 poems, many of which are set to music. Blind from the age of 6 weeks, her poetry is amazingly vivid in its imagery. William Doane, the composer of the tune for this hymn, came to Ms. Crosby and asked her if the tune spoke to her in any way. Inspired by Galatians 6:14, she wrote the words to “Jesus, Keep me Near the Cross.”
