Description
Lovely traditional tune associated with the historic fleeing of Ireland by the Earls of Tyrone and Tyrconnell during the reign of James I of England (IV of Scotland). Their departure is considered an important historical event as it opened the door for the English Crown to declare their departure treasonous and to seize their lands. There are several sets of lyrics to the tune, each referring to the grief of leaving their land and nostalgia for the same. There is also a lovely contemporary set of lyrics by M.D. Ridge honoring the Virgin Mary, “I Sing a Maid.”
Early intermediate.
