Description
This hymn of faith was written by Louisa M. R. Stead, who was born in England. She wanted to be a missionary to China, but ill-health prevented her. She immigrated to the United States, first living in Ohio, then moving to New York after her marriage. Tragically, during a visit to Long Island Sound, her husband attempted to save a drowning boy, but both the boy and her husband died in the attempt. It is believed that this terrible event was the inspiration for the hymn.
